Ear infection is the infection occurring in your middle ear. Behind your ear drum is an air-filled sac and inside it are small bones, also called vibrating bones.

This is called middle years. The risk of getting this infection is higher in children than in adults. In this infection, the small narrow tubes that run from the middle ear to the throat become swollen and blocked.

Due to this, mucus starts accumulating in your middle ear. This mucus becomes infected and causes ear infection. You may experience some pain, so you should know how to manage pain.

Crying in small children, difficulty in sleeping, the child being irritable all the time, not responding to any sound or not being able to hear them properly, in some cases fever, headache, liquid coming out from the stool, loss of appetite. Symptoms like numbness etc. may be seen. In adults, only common symptoms like pain in ear, difficulty in hearing, discharge of fluid from the ear are seen.

This infection occurs due to bacterial or viral infection in your ear. Due to this infection you may also get other infections like flu, cold etc. Due to this, your nasal passage may become swollen and pain may extend to your throat as well.

Since this condition is more common in children and children cannot even tell on their own, if you see similar symptoms for more than one day, then you should not delay in taking the child to the doctor. If fluid is continuously coming out from the child’s ears and he/she seems very irritable and worried, he/she should be taken to the doctor. If the pain is more severe in adults then they should consult a doctor.

Young children are at greater risk. Children whose age is between 6 months to 2 years often suffer from this infection. The risk also increases if children are kept in a group. The risk of getting this infection increases in winter. Even if the air quality is very bad, your child or you may get ear infection.

Actually, it does not require any treatment and this infection gets cured on its own, hence you should wait for one to two days to see whether it gets cured on its own or not. If the pain is severe or the symptoms persist for more than two days, you should consult a doctor. Your doctor may give you medicine or some drops for ear pain. You may also be suggested anti-biotic therapy. This is especially done for children so that they do not suffer too much and they can get relief from the symptoms.
