Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan are one such pair in the world of cinematic stars, seeing whom everyone’s eyes light up. More than 30 years have passed since the marriage of both of them. Even today, the strength of their relationship, their ability to take care of their family and above all, their determination to make a name for themselves in their respective fields, makes both of them the best and the best in this world. But do you know that due to different religion, Gauri’s parents were initially not ready for this marriage. Not only this, then Gauri changed Shahrukh’s name to Abhinav in front of the parents, so that they would consider him/her as a Hindu boy. Gauri herself made this disclosure in an interview in the year 2008. However, she also says that it was very childish.

Gauri Khan and Shah Rukh married in the year 1991. Then Gauri was 21 years old and Shahrukh was 26 years old. Gauri told Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla on the show ‘First Ladies’, ‘We were too young then to decide to get married and that too to a guy who is going to work in films, and So and he/she is from a different religion. You can understand how big a deal it was then. Recalling those days, Gauri tells that she changed Shah Rukh Khan’s name to Abhinav, so that the parents would think that he/she is a Hindu. She says, “We changed his/her name to Abhinav so that the parents would think that he/she is a Hindu boy, but in reality it was a very childish and stupid act.”
Married in 1991 and then three children were born
Gauri and Shah Rukh have been together since college days. They also dated for a few years before marriage. After marriage in the year 1991, Shah Rukh made his/her Bollywood debut in 1992 with the film ‘Deewana’. Earlier, he/she had worked in TV shows like ‘Fauji’ and ‘Circus’ on TV. Son Aryan Khan was born in 2007 after six years of marriage. After this, daughter Suhana was born in 2000 and then in 2013, through surrogacy, the couple’s third child, Abram, was born.
Gauri on Diwali and Shahrukh on Eid becomes the leader of the house
The best thing about Shah Rukh and Gauri is that despite being from different religions, both of them have tremendous respect for both their religions. Their three children also follow the religions of both mother and father equally. Gauri says, ‘When Diwali comes, I do the puja and the rest of the housemates support me. Similarly, on the occasion of Eid, Shahrukh leads and we all follow him/her. I think it is a very beautiful thing that our children follow both the religions.

Shah Rukh says, “My kids sometimes ask me what religion they belong to, and like a good Hindi film hero, I raise my eyes to the sky and very philosophically tell them that you are the first Be an Indian, your religion is humanity. Then I tell them the old Hindi song – Tu Hindu banega na muslim banega, insaan ki aulad hai insaan banega.
