Duty Leave Policy for DU Professors: There is good news for those teaching in colleges of Delhi University. DU professors are going to get their duty leave back. That means some 30 holidays in a year. College professors have been promised to return their leaves as per UGC rules. However, at present verbal assurance has been received. Teachers are eagerly waiting for the release of written notification on paper. Understand the whole matter.

Holidays were taken away

The DU Law Center College Management, the legal education center of Delhi University, had passed an order in the first week of October. Under this, the duty leave policy given to the college faculty was abolished by the end of the semester. Lecturers, Assistant Professors including members of DUTA and other teachers unions started strongly opposing it.

These teachers said that this decision is going to break our morale. Also, it is against the rules of UGC, under which these holidays are mandatory for the development of teachers. Indian National Teachers Congress (INTEC) Chairman Pankaj Garg told Education Times that ‘UGC has made a provision for these holidays. These help in strengthening the entire institution, not just the individual teachers.

he/she said, ‘This has just happened in DU Law Faculty. This will become a trend in future and will be started in other departments of Delhi University also. This will affect the ranking and overall development of the entire institute. Because our professors will not be able to upgrade.

What is Duty Leave?

According to the Regulation 2018 of the University Grants Commission (UGC), teachers can take 30 leaves every year under the duty leave policy. They can use these holidays for things like conferences, workshops, refresher courses. This is necessary for upskilling of teachers. These trainings are useful not only in increasing knowledge but also in promotion of teachers. Through duty leave, faculty can attend such events by taking leave from teaching work in the college.
