DU Hostel: You will get admission in DU, but not hostel! Know what the actual situation is

The race for hostels is more difficult than admission in Delhi University. The first round of admission to UG courses in DU has been completed and the second round is going on. Along with this, the first list of hostels has also come in all the colleges. Classes will start in DU from 29 August. More than half of the students in DU are from outside Delhi, but hostels are very rare. Not every college of the university has hostels, due to less seats, most of the students are left with the option of PG home and rented rooms.

4400 seats in 20 hostels of DU

There are about 4400 seats in 20 hostels of DU. First year students take admission in less than half of these seats. Not even 10% of the students get a hostel. Out of the 20 hostels of the university, 18 hostels belong to colleges and two belong to the university. One of these is for PG and research students. Most of the hostels are in the North Campus. Apart from these, only 18 colleges of DU have hostels for UG students, while UG programs run in 68 colleges.

Delhi University: You will get admission, but not hostel

Ritu Tyagi, a resident of Haryana, said that she has got a seat in Gargi, but the college does not have a hostel. There are very few seats in the university’s UG hostel, and it is also far from the college. So she is looking at PG. However, PGs are very expensive. The cost is looking at 15 thousand. There are 250 seats in Lady Shri Ram College’s hostel, but the college has alerted that hostel will not be available for this session. Renovation work is going on in the college.

Lucknow student Niharika said that she wants admission in LSR or Gargi College. Hopefully she will get a seat in the next list. These days she is searching for PG on the internet. Anyway, one has to leave the hostel after one year in LSR. By the way, every college of DU should build a hostel.

Some colleges in DU have hostels for both girls and boys. However, Hansraj and Kirori Mal have only boys’ hostels. All other colleges have girls’ hostels. DDU College, Hindu College, Ramjas, SRCC, Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies, St. Stephens have hostels for both girls and boys. Girls’ hostels are in great demand in DU due to security reasons. Indraprastha College, Miranda House, Daulatram College, Jankidevi Memorial College also have seats.

On the other hand, the university’s undergraduate hostel for girls in Mukherjee Nagar has around 660 seats. The International Students House for Women has a few seats for UG courses. The hostel fees range from Rs 3,000 to Rs 8,000 per month.
