DU Admission 2024: 97387 seats in the first list, BCom top choice, know DU cutoff, how will admission be done further?

In the first round of Delhi University, seats have been allotted to 97,387 students. 52,838 girls and 44,549 boys have got seats in different colleges, in which they can take admission. There are a total of 71,600 seats for undergraduate courses in DU. But the university has decided to fill additional seats in the first round, so that if some students leave their seats in the next round to choose another college or course, then seats in DU do not remain vacant. The maximum number of seats, 10,096, have been allotted for B.Com Honors program.

DU’s admission branch had appealed to fill as many college-course preferences as possible so that their chances of admission are strong. Students filled 1,72,18,187 preferences.

This year 2,45,287 students had registered on the UG portal. But only 1,85,543 lakh students have filled the choice of course-college. That means these students are in the race. Admissions will be done for about 71 thousand seats in 79 UG programs and 198 BA program combinations of 68 colleges/institutes/centers of the university. There are about 1559 subject-college combinations. DU has allotted 5,68,20,017 unique cutoffs and ranks. Seats have been given to 243 orphan students and 1339 single girl children.

Check DU Cut-Off and Rank in Dashboard

According to DU Registrar Prof Vikas Gupta, this year the university has added another feature that will allow one to view the cutoff and rank in which the seat has been allotted in its dashboard. This will be visible according to the category and quota of the student. It is important to understand that if more than one student has the same CUET score for the same program, then their ranks may be different. This is because the course-college choices will be in different orders.

DU Admission Process: What to do after merit list?

The admission process on the basis of the first allocation list has started on Friday. Students will be able to ‘accept’ till 4:59 pm on August 18. By 4:59 pm on August 20, colleges will check the students’ documents online and approve the admission. By 4:59 pm on August 21, students will be able to confirm their seats by paying the fees. It will be necessary for the students to accept the seat they will get, otherwise the student will be out of the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS).

After getting the seat, candidates who want to go to another college will have to choose the option of ‘upgrade’. The vacant seats will be considered in the next round. If the student does not choose the option of upgrade, then the admission on the previous seat will remain intact. If the student wants the same seat that he/she has got, then he/she will have to ‘freeze’ the seat from the dashboard. After this, there will be no chance to ‘upgrade’.

DU Tie Breaker: Is the score equal? This is the rule of DU tie breaker

In the last two years, students used to get normalized scores in CUET UG results. However, this time the result will have raw scores, not percentiles. This time the National Testing Agency has not given normalized scores, but raw scores. Because of this, the tie-breaker formula can be used more.

Prof. Haneet says, if some students have the same CUET score, then DU will use the tie-breaker formula for this. In this, the role of 12th class score is important. In this situation, the decision of which student will get the seat will be taken on the basis of the score of best 3/best 4/best 5 subjects/preference to older candidates/English alphabet.

After this list, many students have got relief. Many students are not so happy with their seats and are waiting for a second chance. At the same time, some are still waiting to get a seat. After this first list, many students have also got relief, who had taken admission in a private/state college keeping the second option, they are now in the process of cancelling it.
