DRM caught taking bribe of Rs 25 lakh, big action by CBI

New Delhi: The CBI has arrested three people, including a DRM of Waltair Division, Visakhapatnam, in East-Coast Railway on bribery charges. Of these, two are owners of companies based in Mumbai and Pune. On whom Railways had imposed a fine of Rs 3 crore 17 lakh. To reduce this amount of penalty, a deal of Rs 25 lakh was allegedly made between them and DRM. CBI caught them at the time of their transaction. CBI said that among the arrested accused, IRSME Saurabh Prasad of 1991 batch, DRM of Railways posted in Waltair Division, Visakhapatnam, Sanil Rathod, proprietor of a Mumbai based private company and another Pune based private company. Anand Bhagat of the company is involved. CBI said that raids were also conducted at the premises of the accused. From where more than Rs 87 lakh in cash, Rs 72 lakh in cash and other items were recovered.

DRM transaction settings

CBI said that a penalty of Rs 3 crore 17 lakh was imposed on these two companies by the Railways for not fulfilling the contract conditions. To reduce this amount of fine, both the companies were allegedly arranging transactions through Honor DRM. The case was settled for Rs 25 lakh.

CBI laid the trap

The accused DRM had reached Mumbai from Visakhapatnam for allegedly transacting this bribe amount. Where the CBI, which had already laid a trap, caught them. Apart from these, both the accused of the companies were also caught by the CBI team. Further investigation is being done into the matter to see if any other railway officer is also involved in this bribery case.
