China has recently announced the establishment of two new counties in Hoton province. Some part of these counties falls in the Ladakh Union Territory of India. The government was asked whether it was aware of this and what steps the government has taken to deal with this situation. The government was also asked what protest has been lodged by India against the construction of these counties and what response has been received from the Chinese government.
Information about construction of infrastructure
Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh said that the government is aware of the announcement of the establishment of two new counties by China in Hoton province. he/she informed that some part of these counties falls in Ladakh, a union territory of India. he/she also said that the government is aware that China is developing infrastructure in border areas.
We do not recognize China’s step
The Minister of State for External Affairs said, ‘The Government of India has never accepted the illegal occupation of China on Indian territory in this region. Construction of new counties will neither affect India’s long -standing and consistent position in relation to India’s sovereignty over the region, nor will it provide validity to the illegal and forced occupation of China. This means that India does not recognize this move of China at all.
Extended expenses compared to three decades
The Union Minister further said that the government is paying special attention to improvement in infrastructure in border areas. This will lead to economic development of these areas and will meet India’s strategic and security requirements. In the last decade (2014-2024), budget allocation for border infrastructure has increased. The Border Roads Organization (BRO) has spent three times more than the previous decade.
Government is constantly monitoring the developments
he/she further stated that the length of road networks, bridges and tunnels has increased considerably compared to before. This has increased connectivity to local communities and has given better logistic assistance for our armed forces. The government continuously monitor all developments that affect India’s security and take all the necessary measures to protect its sovereignty and regional integrity. The government is committed to ensuring that India’s borders are protected under any circumstances.
Negotiations also continue to resolve border dispute
The Union Minister said that the government has stated clearly that no change in India’s situation will come from any claim or action of China. The Government of India is also negotiating with China to resolve border disputes. Also, it is fully prepared to protect its borders.
