Dowry Case: Greed of dowry that marriage lasted only 3 days, now the groom jailed for 3 months

New Delhi: In the country’s capital Delhi, dowry-donation ended marriage within three days. Not only the groom, his/her father also had such a hunger for dowry that even after marriage, the ritual could not be performed. This greed implicated the groom in a dowry harassment trial which lasted for 19 years. Three months in jail had to be eaten. Now the Supreme Court has asked her to give a compensation of Rs 3 lakh to the bride. The bride is settled abroad by marrying a second marriage.

70 tola gold was found, and 30 weighs were demanded

The marriage took place on March 3, 2006. The bride’s parents gave her 60 tole gold. The groom also got 10 tole gold. But the IT professional groom felt less. he/she asked for 30 tole gold and sought to join the rituals to be held in the bride’s house. In the middle of the reception, the groom’s father took him/her from the pavilion. he/she said that the bride’s parents had to give 100 weighing gold in which there was a shortage of 30 weighs.

Both the bride and groom private employees

The groom was Infotech Professional and the bride also worked in a private company. She saw that there is no value of relationships in front of her husband, she was hungry for wealth. he/she then filed a case under Section 498A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act. The trial court of Saidapate (Tamil Nadu) convicted the groom under the IPC and Dowry Prohibition Act. he/she was fined 3 years in jail and a fine of Rs 3,000. The Additional Sessions Judge also upheld the decision.

Madras High Court sentenced

The Madras High Court also held the groom guilty, but the punishment was two years. The groom appealed to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court asked him/her to surrender. he/she got bail after being in jail for three months. The Supreme Court said, ‘The groom has already spent three months in jail. The first time together on 31 March 2006. The couple stayed together for three days. The High Court order shows that the bride is now married and lives abroad. The case lasted for 19 years. Both the bride and groom have moved forward in their lives.

The groom will get compensation of Rs 3 lakh

The Supreme Court reduced the sentence and limited the period of the prison already deducted. The groom was ordered to deposit Rs 3 lakh in the Saidapate Trial Court within four weeks. This money will be given to the bride as she has gone through harassment. If the money is not given, the case will be listed for the hearing again. It is said that ‘do like, do like’.

When will this social evil end?

This matter is a lesson for the society. Dowry is a social evil. Do not know how many lives are wasted in its greed. Together we have to eradicate this practice from the root. Girls will also have to raise voice and take legal action against those who harass for dowry. Only then will the society change. ‘The groom and the bride have moved forward in their lives,’ there was some relief to hear this. But 19 years long struggle, prison sentence, compensation, what is all these? If only! If the groom had not lured it in the beginning, it would not have not come here.
