Don’t be afraid of anyone, follow the constitution, Congress President Kharge appeals to civil servants before voting

New Delhi: A day before the counting of votes, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has made an appeal to all civil servants and officials. he/she said that the Indian National Congress urges the officials to follow the Constitution, not fear anyone and discharge their duties on the basis of merit on the counting day. We are indebted to the vibrant democracy and long-term constitution composed by the makers of modern India for future generations. Kharge said in his/her letter to the officials that the officials should perform their duties and serve the nation without any fear, bias or malice. Do not fear anyone. Do not bow down to any unconstitutional method.

Kharge wrote an open letter

In his/her open letter, he/she wrote that I am writing to you in the capacity of Leader of Opposition (Rajya Sabha) and President of Indian National Congress. Elections for the 18th Lok Sabha have been completed, counting of votes will take place on June 4, 2024. Quoting the Constitutional Oath

Kharge said, our inspiration and India’s first Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel called civil servants the ‘steel frame of India’. The people of India know very well that it is the Indian National Congress that established many institutions on the basis of the Constitution of India, laid their solid foundation and created mechanisms for their independence. Independence of institutions is paramount because every civil servant takes an oath in the Constitution that he/she will faithfully and conscientiously discharge his/her duties and deal with all manner of people in accordance with the Constitution and the law without fear or favour, affection or ill-will”. In this spirit, we expect every bureaucrat and officer to discharge his/her duties in the spirit of the Constitution, that is, without any pressure or threat. he/she said, it is important to underline the fact that the Congress Party, through the Constitution drafted by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Maulana Azad, Sarojini Naidu and our countless inspiring founding members, not only created the framework of strong governance, but also ensured affirmative action by giving representation to the marginalised in bureaucracy and civil society in our autonomous institutions.

Referring to the pervasive tendency towards dictatorship

The Congress president said the last decade has seen a systematic pattern of attacking, undermining and suppressing our autonomous institutions by the ruling party. As a result, India’s democratic values are being damaged. There is a widespread tendency to turn India into a dictatorship. We are increasingly seeing some institutions giving up their independence and shamelessly following the dictates of the ruling party. Some have completely adopted their style of communication, their way of functioning and in some cases even their political rhetoric. This is not their fault. With the misuse of dictatorial power, intimidation, coercive mechanisms and agencies, this tendency to bow down to power has become a way of their short-term survival. However, the Constitution of India and democracy have been casualties in this disgrace.

The ‘will of the people’ is supreme

he/she wrote in his/her letter that the ‘will of the people’ is supreme, and people want the Indian bureaucracy to return to the same ‘steel frame of India’ envisioned by Sardar Patel, which has stood the test of time. With the hope that the character of India remains truly democratic, I wish all of you the best and hope that our eternal ideals of the Constitution remain unblemished.
