Research done so far has mixed resultsCinnamon is the bark of the tree which is used in cooking and baking. In traditional Ayurveda, cinnamon extract is used in many diseases like arthritis, diarrhea, inflammation. Theoretically, it is also believed that the bioactive compounds present in cinnamon help in supporting blood sugar management. However, so far different results have been found in the studies.
In the year 2012, a study was done on 69 patients with type 2 diabetes in China. One group was given 120 mg and 360 mg of cinnamon daily to the other and the third was a placebo group. After a few months, no difference was seen in the placebo group, while the two groups that were consuming cinnamon showed a decrease in A1C levels. In the year 2013, a meta analysis of 10 studies was done, in which it was found that cinnamon was found to be ‘statistically significant’ in reducing glucose, total cholesterol, LDL and triglyceride when eating cinnamon. However, the researchers noted that the type of cinnamon used in each study was different.In a study conducted in the year 2019, a positive effect was found in blood parameters by consuming 3 to 6 grams of cinnamon. Some studies have found that cinnamon lowers hemoglobin A1C, which is a measure of long-term blood sugar regulation. However, the effects of cinnamon on glycemic and lipid parameters are not consistent in different studies.

This is how you can use cinnamonWe can consume cinnamon in many ways. It can be used to make decoction. Along with this it is done in flavored biryani and vegetable gravy. You can also drink cinnamon powder by adding it to tea. Apple can be eaten by adding cinnamon, which increases the taste of the fruit even more. Apart from this, cinnamon can be used in smoothies, bakery products and rolls.
