Do Agniveers really not get compensation if they are martyred? Know what are the rules of Indian Army

New Delhi: There was a lot of uproar in the opposition in the Lok Sabha today. Today, the Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi targeted the Central Government by raising questions on the Agneepath scheme. Rahul Gandhi said that the families of soldiers recruited under the Agneepath scheme do not get any compensation if they die. However, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh completely rejected this claim of Rahul Gandhi. Rajnath Singh said that if any Agniveer dies, his/her family is given a consolation amount of Rs 1 crore. Agniveer Benefits to the family
On being killed on duty (Category ‘Y/Z’) If an Agniveer dies in the line of duty (category ‘Y/Z’), he/she or she will get an insurance cover of ₹48 lakh, an ex-gratia of ₹44 lakh, full pay and service fund for up to four years, and the amount credited to the service fund and the government’s contribution.
If the Agniveer dies not on duty (Category X) If the Agniveer does not die in the line of duty (Category X), he/she will get an insurance cover of ₹48 lakh plus the amount deposited in the Seva Nidhi corpus and the government’s contribution.
If Agniveer becomes disabled during duty then If an Agniveer becomes disabled in the line of duty, he/she or she will receive an ex-gratia of ₹44 lakh, ₹25 lakh or ₹15 lakh depending on the level of disability (100%, 75% or 50%), full pay and service fund for up to four years, and the amount credited to the service fund and the government’s contribution.

What is Agnipath Yojana

Agneepath Yojana is a scheme brought by the Government of India for recruitment in the Indian Army. Under this scheme, youth are recruited in the army for 4 years as Agniveer. After completing 4 years of service, 25% of Agniveers are included in the regular cadre. While the remaining 75% are retired with a service fund package. Agneepath Recruitment Scheme was launched in June 2022. The purpose of this scheme is to reduce the average age of soldiers in the three armies (Army, Air Force and Navy). Under this scheme, youth from 17 years 6 months to 21 years are recruited for four years.
