Dnyanesh Kumar will be the new Chief Election Commissioner? Decision will be taken next week in PM Modi and Rahul Gandhi meeting

New Delhi: The Chief Election Commissioner of the country Rajiv Kumar is retiring on 18 February. According to sources, the next Chief Election Commissioner can become Dnyanesh Kumar. For this, there will be an important meeting on 17 February. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Law Minister Arjun Meghwal and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi will be present in this meeting. The selection committee will send the names of five candidates for the Chief Election Commissioner. According to sources, the committee has selected five names out of more than 480 candidates.

Dnyanesh Kumar’s name is at the forefront

Dnyanesh Kumar is leading in the race for the name of the Chief Election Commissioner. However, Sukhbir Singh Sandhu is also named. Both of them are currently working as Election Commissioner. Both are retired IAS of 1988 batch. But Dnyanesh Kumar of Kerala cadre is senior. According to sources, the next CEC will be Dnyanesh Kumar according to the seniority. But the selection committee headed by the Prime Minister also has the right to select a name for the CEC separately for the five names proposed by the Union Law Minister and the two Union Secretary Committee. Whichever name the President is seal, the country will be the next CEC.

Who is Dnyanesh Kumar?

Gyanesh Kumar is a 1988 batch IAS officer of Kerala cadre. he/she is currently working on the post of Election Commissioner. Last year, on 31 January 2024, Kumar retired from the post of Secretary in the Ministry of Cooperation under Amit Shah. he/she was posted as Joint Secretary of Kashmir Division in the Home Ministry led by Amit Shah at the time of the removal of Article 370 in August 2019. Dnyanesh Kumar had a big role in resolving this sensitive issue. he/she has worked with Home Minister Amit Shah. At the same time, he/she has also served as Secretary in the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs.

In the year 2020, Gyanesh Kumar was posted as Additional Secretary. he/she handled a special desk in the Ministry of Home Affairs. This desk looked at all the cases related to the Supreme Court’s decision on the Ayodhya case. It also included the formation of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Tirtha Kshetra Trust.

Decision will be taken in the meeting on 17 February

The selection committee will take a final decision in the meeting to be held on 17 February. The new CEC will have many challenges. They have to ensure fair and transparent elections. Maintaining the credibility of the country’s democratic process will be their biggest responsibility. Will have to see who is chosen as the new CEC and how they face these challenges. This will be very important for India’s democracy in the coming time. Will Gyanesh Kumar become the new CEC? To know this, we have to wait till 17 February.
