Canadian Immigration Minister Mark Miller announced these changes in immigration rules. The purpose of these changes is to prevent fraud and improve border management. These changes will impact people who try to enter Canada or the United States illegally. Additionally, this is also going to impact people who travel out of Canada to renew their status and then return immediately. Let us know what major changes have taken place.
Removal of LMIA supported jobs
LMIA (Labour Market Impact Assessment) is a type of report issued by ESDC (Employment and Social Development Canada). This report proves that a Canadian employer can hire a foreign citizen in the country because there is no worker in the country to do that work. If the employer is willing to hire a foreign worker, it is easier to get an LMIA. On getting LMIA, you get more points in CRS (Comprehensive Ranking System) in Express Entry System.
However, some people started buying fake LMIA to increase their CRS ranking. For this reason, the government has now announced not to give extra points for LMIA job offers. This will affect those Indians who went to work in Canada through LMIA supported jobs. When they apply for PR through Express Entry, they will not get extra points. Because of this, it will be difficult for them to get permanent residency in Canada.
Ban on ‘flagpolling’
The Canadian government has also banned flagpolling. This is a technique where temporary residents first leave Canada and then re-enter the country to renew their visa status. People used flagpolling to get work permit or study permit renewed. he/she used to change his/her status without going through the entire process. This caused a lot of problems at the border. The government said flagpolling uses up resources at the border and creates unnecessary delays.
