[ad_1] New Delhi : Modi government's problems may increase regarding the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024. Jagan Mohan Reddy-led YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) in Andhra Pradesh has come out against this bill. The party's move is being seen as an attempt to woo the state's Muslim population. This move by Jagan's party comes at a time when Andhra Pradesh's ruling Telugu Desam Party has maintained silence on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024. TDP is in alliance with BJP in the state and Centre, with india allianceIn this way, Jaganmohan Reddy's party seems to be standing with the India alliance regarding the Waqf Amendment Bill. The India Alliance has had differences with the Narendra Modi-led NDA government regarding this bill since the beginning. This is also visible in the deliberations of the Joint Committee of Parliament. The Joint Parliamentary Committee is considering this issue.Last Thursday, the Lok Sabha passed a proposal to extend the tenure of this joint committee till the last day of the budget session next year. This proposal was presented by JPC president and BJP MP Jagdambika Pal.YSRCP was silent about the bill earlierYSRCP was earlier silent on this bill. In the recently held Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, TDP along with ally BJP and Pawan Kalyan's Janasena Party (JSP) ousted YSRCP from power in Andhra Pradesh. Due to this the party was reduced to only 11 assembly and four Lok Sabha seats.NDA constituents won the remaining 175 assembly and 25 Lok Sabha seats. Now, the weakened YSRCP seems to be trying to extend its reach to the Muslim community by opposing the controversial Waqf Bill. According to the 2011 census, the share of Muslim community in the state's population is 9.56%.Muslims were not taken into confidenceAccording to Indian Express report, YSRCP Lok Sabha MP PV Mithun Reddy said that the Waqf Bill is being brought without taking Muslims into confidence. he/she said that YSRCP says that Waqf land belongs to the community and it cannot be taken away forcibly.Calling it a 'one-sided' bill, the YSRCP MP said Muslim community leaders have presented their stand against the proposed amendments. he/she has not given his/her consent to the amendment in the Waqf Bill. Will protest in both housesAccording to the report, Mithun Reddy said that YSRCP's Vijayasai Reddy had raised objections in the parliamentary panel formed to consider the amendments and the concerns related to them. he/she said that we will oppose the bill in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
