Did India’s name come up in the first debate between Kamala Harris and Trump, who had the upper hand?

New Delhi: Donald Trump defeated Kamala Harris in the virtual coin toss before the presidential debate of the US presidential election, but whatever happened after that during the debate, Harris was seen cornering Trump in his/her narrative. In this 90-minute debate, there was a heated debate on many issues. Kamala Harris’s attacks on Trump were quite aggressive. From the criminal case against Trump to the Capitol Hill incident, she cornered Trump several times. This was part of Harris’s strategy to provoke Trump, although it is worth noting that in her first presidential debate, Harris’s approach was different from Biden’s attitude in the debate held a few months ago. Issues like immigration to foreign policy, economy and health and abortion dominated the debate. In a CNN poll conducted immediately after the debate, those who watched the debate believed that Kamala Harris’s answers were better than Trump’s. 63 percent of people have voted in favor of Kamala Harris in this poll, while 37 percent of people also believe that Donald Trump presented his/her arguments correctly.

When Trump said- Marxist father gave the right education
Trump started his/her speech with the economy. Trump accused the Biden administration of ruining the economy, although Harris retorted and reminded how the Trump administration had left the country with what kind of economy. Along with this, personal attacks were also seen from both sides in the debate. Trump reiterated as before that Harris is a Marxist, while Harris described Trump as a person who wants to push America backwards. Trump said that Harris’s father was a Marxist professor and he/she has taught Kamala well about it. During the debate, Harris was seen interrupting Trump several times and Trump was seen taunting and attacking Harris many times, asking why people leave early for his/her rallies. Harris also said that it is tragic that a person who always tried to divide America on racial basis wants to become president.

If Trump were president, Putin would have been sitting in Kiev
In this debate, issues of withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan, Russia-Ukraine conflict and the situation in Gaza also resonated. Trump targeted the Biden administration on the Russia-Ukraine war. he/she also claimed that he/she knows both Zelensky and Putin very well and if he/she wins the general election on November 5, he/she will end the war between Russia and Ukraine. Harris retorted that if Trump were president, Putin would be sitting in Kiev and would have an eye on the rest of Europe. Regarding the war in Gaza, Harris supported Israel’s right to defend itself, but at the same time she also talked about ceasefire and two nation solution. Trump attacked Harris sharply and said that she hates Israel. China was also mentioned several times in this debate. Harris said that world leaders make fun of her, although Trump responded by saying that Hungary’s Viktor Orban is in her support, to which Harris retorted that Trump likes dictators. he/she said, taking the name of Korean leader Kim Jong Un, that everyone knows that both of them used to share love letters with each other.

Trying to stand out from Biden
Through her sharp questions on Trump, Harris clearly tried to distance herself from Biden’s unpopularity. Harris used phrases like “Let’s turn the page” several times. She also did not reveal much about her policies. Although Trump linked her to the failures of the Biden administration, he/she repeatedly asked Harris why she did not implement what she was saying in this debate during her three and a half years as Vice President. Harris silenced him/her by saying that I am neither Joe Biden nor Trump, I am offering new leadership to this country.

Fierce debate over abortion
Abortion rights was one such topic where Kamala looked very emotional. Both the leaders called their claims right and the other one wrong. Trump said that you people believe that there is no problem in getting an abortion in the 9th month or killing the child after birth. On this, Kamala said that Trump is lying and because of him/her, there is a ban on abortion in 20 states of USA and rape victims are facing difficulty in taking their decisions. She said that pregnant women have to go to other states for treatment, but we will not let this happen. Harris said that if Trump becomes the President, there will be a national abortion monitoring system which will monitor your pregnancy, your abortion.

There is no mention of India in the debateThere was no mention of India in this debate between Harris and Trump, neither negative nor positive. This can be considered a relief from India. However, the way China’s name came up in the chip industry and other issues, it is clear that American politics and society will continue to see China as a competitor. In the context of China, India will also remain a priority in American foreign policy. One surprising thing was that while Putin supported Harris for the post of President, Harris was quite aggressive towards Putin in the debate.
