Chennai: After a memorable debut of Afghanistan’s ‘Mystery’ spinner Noor Ahmed (four wickets for 18 runs), Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated Mumbai Indians by four wickets in the Indian Premier League match on Sunday with a half -century of captain Ruturaj Gaikwad (53 runs) and Rachin Ravindra (65 not out).
Rachin Ravindra faced two fours and four sixes in his/her unbeaten innings, facing 45 balls. he/she won the team by hitting a six.
Instead of starting the innings, Gaikwad, who landed at number three, hit six fours and three sixes during the 26 -ball innings. Both of them shared a 67 -run partnership in 37 balls for the second wicket.
CSK won the toss and stopped Mumbai Indians at 155 for nine wickets in 20 overs with Noor Ahmed’s brilliant performance. In this, apart from Noor Ahmed, Khalil Ahmed took three wickets for 29 runs.
Rachin Ravindra and Gaikwad, besides Ravindra Jadeja, scored 17 runs before being run out for CSK to chase this goal. Apart from these three, no batsman could reach a double -point in which Mumbai Indians bowlers, especially Kerala’s left -handed spinner Vignesh Puthur (three wickets for 32 runs), who made their debut in the IPL.
Twenty -four -year -old Puthur took the wickets of Gaikwad, Shivam Dubey and Deepak Hooda.
CSK started the campaign with a win by scoring 158 runs for six wickets in 19.1 overs.
Rachin Ravindra finally entertained the audience by hitting two sixes off Puthur’s balls.
As soon as Mahendra Singh Dhoni landed at the crease after Ravindra Jadeja was dismissed, he/she was happy with the noise of the audience who expected him/her to score victorious runs because then only four runs were needed to win. But Rachin Ravindra hit a six and won the team on the home ground.
With this, Mumbai Indians retained a strange record of not winning their opening match since 2012.
Earlier, after the batting was invited, Mumbai Indians Tilak Verma was the top scorer for 31 runs. Captain Suryakumar Yadav could contribute only 29 runs for him/her. In the end, Deepak Chahar helped the team reach this score by scoring an unbeaten 28 off 15 balls.
While Noor Ahmed demolished the sequence of Mumbai Indians, Khalil Ahmed sent opener Rohit Sharma (zero) and Ryan Ricelton (13 runs off seven balls) to the pavilion in the powerplay.
As usual, CSK took the initial wickets on Chepak’s pitch at his/her home ground. After being invited to bat, Rohit was first out, he/she attempted to flick Khalil’s ball and was caught out by Shivam Dubey on mid-wicket, when the team’s account was not even open.
Ricelton, who was playing his/her first match for Mumbai Indians, looked good during his/her brief innings but soon became Khalil’s second wicket.
R Ashwin, who was returning after 10 years in CSK, took a wicket in his/her first over and scored 36 for three wickets. When Will Jacks holds an easy catch to Dubey on the mid-off off his/her ball.
Suryakumar Yadav (26 balls) and Tilak Verma (25 balls), who are in form, shared a 51 -run innings.
But MS Dhoni stumped the acting captain of Mumbai Indians off Noor Ahmed. Dhoni showed that he/she was agile as usual and the gills fell before Suryakumar swinging his/her bat completely.
Suryakumar led the team in the absence of Hardik Pandya who could not play in the match due to a slow over speed ban in the last season.
After the double shaking of Noor Ahmed, the hope of Mumbai Indians broke. he/she dismissed Robin Minj and then two balls later sent Tilak to the pavilion from Gugli.
Noor Ahmed’s fourth wicket was Naman Dhir, which he/she bowled. In the end, Deepak Chahar hit two fours and two sixes and took the score to 150.
