‘Deva’ Movie Review: Shahid’s strong action, but does not connect this old story of thieves and police

Bollywood filmmaker is unable to fascinate the remakes of South’s films. Eminent superstars of our industry also believe in South’s script. This is the reason why films like ‘Rowdy Rathore’, ‘Wanted’, ‘Bachchan Pandey’, ‘Selfie’, ‘Milli’, ‘Shahzada’, ‘Vikram Vedha’ are constantly being made, which are remakes of South films. Director Roshan Andrews’ Shahid Kapoor starrer recent release ‘Deva’ is also a remake of ‘Mumbai Police’ released in 2013. Shahid Kapoor has also appeared in films like ‘Kabir Singh’ and ‘Jersey’, which has been a successful remake of South.

Story of ‘Deva’

The story of Deva (Shahid Kapoor), a mad policeman, begins at the flash back, where he/she is returning after solving a very big case. Then he/she gets an accident and his/her memory goes away. Deva’s memory is known only to his/her doctor and senior Farhan (Pravesh Rana). Before the accident, Deva had told Farhan that he/she had solved the case. Dabangg Police Deva Deva kills criminals so ruthlessly without following any protocol that journalist Diya (Pooja Hegde) also writes whether he/she is a policeman or a mafia? Deva is looking for a gangster (Manish Wadhwa) from Mumbai, but as many times Deva tries to catch him/her, he/she manages to escape from the grip of the gangster police. The police department suspects that there is someone inside, who has met the miscreants.

The story also has the second track, where Deva’s brother -in -law Rohan (Pavel Gulati) is shot dead and murdered on the day he/she was to be honored with the Bravery Award. Deva gets involved in the murder of his/her friend and policeman, but as long as he/she solves the case, his/her memory goes away.

After going to the memory, Deva is once again given the case of Rohan. As Deva again goes to the bottom of the case, his/her hands get clues and in the end when he/she finds out the criminal, the audience is shocked as well.

‘Deva’ movie review

The story of police and gangster is not new in Hindi films. This story of thief-police has been redeemed in Bollywood. Then this story of director Roshan Andrews’s film is a remake of ‘Mumbai Police’, which came about 12 years ago, then the story lacks newness. In 2025 you are unable to connect to this story. The screenplay of the film is weak. The first half is long and if seen, the real story begins after interval. When you reach the climax, you are definitely shocked, but many questions are not available.

In the film, you do not get the reconciliation of many of the heroes of the hero. After the film is over, you get into thinking what should be the hero of the Hindi film finally? It may be an anti -hero, but his/her region should be correct. However, the technical team deserves praise. Amit Roy’s cinematography is tremendous. The selection and camera angle of their color palette is interesting.

Anal Arasu, Supreme Sundar, Vikram Dahiya, Parvez Sheikh and Abbas Ali Mogul are strong. A Srikar Prasad’s editing as editor is excellent. The background music of the film is fantastic, but music has no power.

Shahid Kapoor is a grooming actor. Here too, his/her aerrogens, anger, style, swag and action in the role of Deva entertain a lot. They have been effective in the two forms of memory and losing, but all his/her hard work comes in climax when his/her character does not seem to be justice.

Shahid and Pooja Hegde’s romantic track also does not add anything special to the film. However Pooja has done justice to her role. Among other characters, Pavel Gulati has done a memorable job as Rohan, while artists like Pravesh Rana, Kubra Saat, Upendra Limaye, Girish Kulkarni have managed to leave their mark.

Why see- Shahid Kapoor’s fan and is fond of action films, then you can watch this film.
