Despite fog safety devices and armour, trains are still affected by fog, what is the reason?

New Delhi: Technology is continuously being used to make the operation of trains better, easier and safer. In this direction, modern technologies like fog safety devices and armor are also being installed in the engines, yet fog remains a hindrance in the operation of trains. Even on Tuesday, more than 20 trains reached Delhi late. The effect of fog was seen on Tuesday also. Trains were delayed for about 6 hours. Unchahar Express arrived late by 282 minutes, AP Express by 242 minutes, Farakka Express by 241 minutes. Ayodhya Express was delayed by 160 minutes, Vikramshila Express by 49 minutes. However, Rajdhani and Tejas trains also arrived late on Tuesday. Tejas Rajdhani was late by 14 minutes and New Delhi Duronto Express was late by 15 minutes.

why the fog doesn’t cut away

Chief Public Relations Officer of Northern Railway, Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay said that the fog safety device is a geo mapping device. Its specialty is that it alerts the train about the incoming signal. This device alerts the driver about 800 to 900 meters before the signal arrives. But, it only tells about the signal, what type of signal it is, whether it is red, green or yellow, this is known to the driver only when he/she approaches. In a way it helps in running the train safely. But if there is heavy fog then the track is not visible, if there is any kind of obstruction on the track, then this device does not help in that.

Armor also safety device

Himanshu Shekhar told that if there are two trains on the same track and the loco pilot cannot see, then the armor automatically applies the brakes. This is an effective technology on safety standards. However, railway officials say that the speed also improves by 15 to 20 percent. If the device is not there then the loco pilot reduces his/her speed, but when the device is installed and it tells him/her that the next signal is after 800 meters, then he/she increases the speed of his/her train in the meantime.

What does Railways have to say?

At the same time, most of the trains arriving late do not leave on time. In this regard, Railways says that since many trains are late simultaneously, it leads to bunching. Due to this, maintenance of trains also gets delayed. The train cannot run again without completing the maintenance. As an alternative to this problem, we keep the rake of some trains ready, have the exact mirror image, do the same type of composition, so that they can run on time.
