Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz supports Israel’s right to defend itself if war escalates

Democratic Party vice presidential nominee Tim Walz expressed his/her strong support for Israel’s right to defend itself in an interview with Fox News on Sunday.

his/her opinion assumes significance as it comes just a day before the first anniversary of the October 7 massacre in Israel, which resulted in the death of over 1200 Israelis at the hands of the terrorist organization Hamas.

Giving his/her first solo interview ahead of the US general elections in early November this year, Walz called for the release of Israeli hostages and an end to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, but said that “Iran is at the center of this.” “Their deputies who bring disruption to the entire region,” Hill said.

According to Al Jazeera, Walz has taken a more conciliatory approach towards the Israel–Hamas conflict.

Earlier in March of this year, he/she told Minnesota Public Radio, “Israel has the right to defend itself and the atrocities of October 7 are unacceptable, but Palestinian civilians are over the top.”

The same was seen during the Vice President’s debate also. Walz quoted, “Israel’s ability to be able to defend itself is absolutely fundamental, and is ending the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.”

Tim Walz’s opinion becomes important because he/she has served in the US Army for more than 20 years.

his/her views on the US role in Israel are, as he/she says, “There is an absolute, fundamental need for the United States to have stable leadership there”.

he/she has expressed his/her displeasure over Donald Trump’s warming of relations with Vladimir Putin and North Korea, saying that this leads to “instability in keeping the alliance together”.

In his/her interview with Fox News, he/she said, “We have always said that we reserve the right to defend American troops, our allies in the region, and there will be consequences for Iran,” he/she later said. “So what you’re seeing right now is the ability to work with our allies to make sure Iran doesn’t escalate, and every administration has dealt with them for 45 years.”

Under President Joe Biden, the US saw an increase in sanctions on Iran. Earlier this year, the White House said in a press statement that, “The United States has imposed sanctions on more than 600 individuals and entities – including Iran and its proxies, Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis, and Kata’ib Hezbollah. “

Before retiring, Walz served overseas with his/her battalion to conduct strikes against al-Qaeda and Taliban forces in Afghanistan, according to data provided by the US Congress.

Walz is notably the highest-ranking enlisted soldier to serve in the U.S. Congress. Their views thus gain momentum as Israel intensifies its bombing of northern Gaza and southern Beirut to target both Hamas and Hezbollah.

A recent Washington Post poll found that 39 percent of Americans have a favorable image of Walz as a future vice president.
