Delhi News: There will be no jam, now parking will be done according to the area, know what is the new formula of the government

New Delhi: If you live in the capital Delhi, then you must be aware of the traffic jams on the roads here. One of the major reasons for traffic jams in Delhi is the lack of proper parking arrangements. To deal with the parking problem in Delhi, the Delhi government has issued several important guidelines. The purpose of these guidelines is to improve parking plans, give priority to the needs of the people and control parking fees.

Parking will be as per area

The Delhi government has directed to expedite work on area-specific parking plans (APPs) and give priority to the parking needs of pedestrians, cyclists, disabled persons, emergency vehicles, public transport and public bodies like schools in future parking plans. Along with this, any place where parking has not been made is considered a no-parking zone. In the year 2020, the MCD had prepared plans for at least 17 colonies and submitted them to the Transport Department of the Delhi Government.

Where are the new projects being built?

Barring four, the rest of the schemes were not approved, a senior MCD official said. Of the four schemes that were approved, two were implemented in Lajpat Nagar and Lajpat Nagar Market. At the other two sites, Gulmohar Park and Niti Bagh, the schemes remained stuck due to changes suggested by locals. As of 2021, approval is awaited for Anand Lok, Aurobindo Marg (IIT to AIIMS), Geetanjali Enclave, Green Park Extension, Kailash Colony, Kailash Hills, Punjabi Bagh Banquet Hall, Malviya Nagar, Panchsheel Enclave, Safdarjung Development Area and Siddharth Extension Pocket-B.

Instructions to make Delhi jam free

Officials said Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena recently held a review meeting, which was attended by officials from traffic, transport and other departments. In the meeting, directions were given to make Delhi jam-free, for which all agencies have to expedite the parking management plan. The Delhi Maintenance and Management of Parking Spaces Rules, 2019 were notified in September the same year. Under the policy, civic bodies were to create PAMPs and regularise haphazard parking in residential and commercial areas. It also recommended creating a separate system for peak and non-peak hours.

A senior official said that parking charges should be limited, neither so high that people do not use the parking nor so low that the demand for parking increases. The official further said that to effectively manage the parking demand, strategies need to be adopted to discourage long-term parking and promote efficient use of space. It has also been directed that there should be different fees for peak and off-peak hours.
