New Delhi : The issue of the death of three UPSC candidates at a coaching centre in Delhi was raised in the Rajya Sabha. In this discussion, questions were also raised on the role of coaching centres. The opposition also expressed concern over the privatisation of education and the condition of government schools. Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar called the issue serious and allowed the discussion. he/she said that this matter is related to our youth, urban structure and governance. Vice President Dhankhar also made sharp comments on coaching centres during the discussion. he/she said that coaching has become an industry where profit is everything. Every day full page advertisements of coaching centres are published in newspapers. These advertisements should be investigated.

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar said that every penny spent on advertising related to coaching centres comes from students. Every new building is built with the money of students. In such a situation, concrete steps need to be taken to curb this. he/she compared coaching centres to gas chambers. Dhankhar said that coaching has become a flourishing industry where the profit is very high. We see full page advertisements of coaching centres in newspapers every day and such advertisements need to be checked. There is indeed a need for an approach that can go a long way in eliminating this.

BJP leader in Rajya Sabha Sudhanshu Trivedi said that the negligence of the Delhi government and MCD is clearly visible in the incident that took place at the coaching institute in Delhi. he/she suggested that the Delhi government should make a list of all coaching centers and check whether they are following the rules or not. Congress leader Randeep Surjewala expressed concern over the growing coaching industry in the country. he/she blamed the 10 years of NDA rule for this. he/she said that for the last 10 years, a government has been in power which has commercialized and privatized the sacred field of education.

Surjewala presented the data of government schools closed and private schools opened in the last 10 years. he/she said that efforts are being made to privatize education. TMC MP Derek O’Brien said that the House should discuss issues like rail accidents, NEET, Manipur unrest, Assam floods, farmer suicides and unemployment with the same seriousness and speed as the issues raised by the opposition. AAP leader Sanjay Singh alleged that the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi is not allowing the state government to work properly. he/she called the recent incident the result of many years of negligence when the BJP was in power in the MCD.
