[ad_1] New Delhi : The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Principal Secretary of the Home Department of the Delhi government in the contempt case due to delay in deciding in the case taking the sentence of Sukhdev Singh, convicted in the Nitish Katara murder case. Earlier, in the last hearing, the Delhi government had assured that it would take a decision on it soon, but no action has been taken so far. The apex court said that the Delhi government does not take any decision until there is a threat to contempt.Notice to Principal Secretary of Home DepartmentThe Supreme Court said that now we have been informed that the SRB (punishment review board) will consider the petitioner's case. The state government did not even bother to apply to extend the time. Therefore, we issue notice to the Principal Secretary of the Home Department of Delhi Government, so that he/she makes it clear why action should be taken against him/her under the contempt Act, 1971 of the court. The Supreme Court has decided to hear further in the case on 28 March.Resentment over the delay in continuous casesThe court has directed the secretary to be present through video conferencing. The court expressed displeasure at the Delhi government's continuous delay in cases. The court further said that we have seen that this government does not follow the orders of the Supreme Court until the deadline is extended. We are looking at this in every case. Earlier it was an excuse that the Chief Minister is not available.On 3 March 2025, the Supreme Court took this undertaking of Additional Solicitor General, which was submitted by the Delhi government, that a decision would be taken on the Remision case of petitioner Sukhdev Pahalwan in two weeks. Accepting the assurance, the court listed the case on 17 March 2025.C refer to SRB meetingDuring the hearing, the Delhi government counsel told the court that the SRB meeting is to be held today. On this, Justice Oka said that then the matter will go to the Chief Minister, then to the Governor. Please tell us who is in charge of this department. We will issue contempt notice.
