New Delhi: The pressure that started from the Bay of Bengal has now transformed into a Fangal cyclone. Due to this, an alert has been issued in some states including Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Andhra Pradesh. Chennai airport has been closed amid heavy rain. The weather department has predicted light to moderate rainfall at many places in coastal and Rayalaseema regions, while it has predicted extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places in SPSR-Nellore, Tirupati and Chittoor districts of Andhra Pradesh. Fengal remains stable near Puducherry

According to the latest update of the Meteorological Department, Cyclone Fangal has remained almost stable over the northern coastal region of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry for the last 1 hour. Which is reaching speed of 85 kmph with wind speed of 65-75 kmph. Cyclone Fangal will move slowly west-southwestwards and gradually weaken into a deep depression during the next 3 hours. The system is being continuously monitored by Doppler weather radars at Chennai and Karaikal.

Heavy rain alert even today

According to IMD, due to Cyclone Fengal, there is a possibility of rain with thunder and lightning and lightning at one or two places in the south coastal area and in Rayalaseema. There is a possibility of heavy rain at one or two places in Prakasam, SPSR-Nellore, YSR Cuddapah, Annamayya, Tirupati and Chittoor districts. Stormy winds with a speed of 50 kilometers per hour may occur in southern coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema.

CM held a meeting with officials

Meanwhile, official sources said that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu reviewed the rain situation with disaster management officials, district collectors and concerned departments. Naidu directed officials to assess the situation in real time and take appropriate action. he/she said that people should be alerted by continuous monitoring through Real Time Governance (RTG). The Chief Minister asked the collectors of districts prone to heavy rains to keep disaster teams ready as a precautionary measure to prevent loss of life and property.

Chennai airport closed

Flight operations were halted at Chennai airport on Saturday due to strong winds and heavy rain as a result of cyclonic storm ‘Fangal’ in Tamil Nadu. Due to heavy rains, some parts of the airport were submerged. Due to the closure of the airport, more than 50 flights were canceled due to which thousands of passengers are facing problems.
