Criminal cases on 251 out of 543 MPs of Lok Sabha, Criminal Case on 19 MP out of 20 in Kerala

New Delhi: A report on criminalization of politics was presented in the Supreme Court on Monday. In this report, it was told that out of 543 Lok Sabha MPs, 251 have criminal cases registered. Out of these, 170 MPs are accused of serious crimes whose punishment may be imprisoned for 5 years or more. This report is based on data received from different High Courts. It was presented by Amicus Curie and senior advocate Vijay Hansaria before the back of Justice Dipankar Dutta and Justice Manmohan.

Shocking figures

This 83 -page report revealed shocking figures. According to the report, 19 out of 20 MPs (95%) of Kerala have criminal cases registered. Out of these, 11 MPs have serious cases registered. Out of 17 MPs from Telangana, 14 (82%), 16 out of 21 in Odisha, 10 out of 14 (71%) in Jharkhand, and 26 out of 39 MPs (67%) of 39 in Tamil Nadu registered criminal cases. Are. About 50% of MPs are facing criminal cases even in big states like Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Bihar, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

In Haryana (10 MPs) and Chhattisgarh (11 MPs), only one MP has criminal cases registered. There are criminal cases against 2 out of 13 MPs in Punjab, 3 out of 14 in Assam, 3 out of 7 in Delhi, 25 out of 25 in Rajasthan, 5 out of 25 in Gujarat, and 9 out of 29 MPs in Madhya Pradesh.

Formed a special back

Hansariya told the court that the Supreme Court had directed all the High Courts in 2023 to constitute a special bench to monitor the hearing of criminal cases pending against existing and former MLAs. But many states have not yet established such special courts. Because of this, the hearing of such cases in some states has been pending for more than two decades.

See the record of Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of 1,171 cases pending. 457 in Odisha, 448 in Bihar, 442 in Maharashtra, 326 in Madhya Pradesh, 315 in Kerala, 313 in Telangana, 255 in Karnataka, 220 in Tamil Nadu, 133 in Jharkhand and 124 in Delhi. Out of these 4,732 cases, 863 cases have been registered for violation of prohibition under Section 144 of CRPC. It is especially seen in Himachal Pradesh (307 cases), Bihar (175), Telangana (112) and Maharashtra (96). There are only four such cases registered in Delhi.

The whole matter was sent to CJI

Hansariya complained of repeated adjournment, non-hijacking of the accused and additional work to special courts. On this, Justice Dutta and Justice Manmohan said that since this order was given by a bench of three judges, it would be better to see the matter of three judges as well. he/she sent the case to CJI to set up a proper bench. This report shows the severity of crime in politics and emphasizes the need to accelerate the judicial process. It has to be seen what steps are taken in this matter.
