Punjab holds world record for biggest run chase in T20 cricket KKR set a target of 262 runs for Punjab Jonny Bairstow scored his second century in IPL

New Delhi. Punjab Kings captain Sam Curran is very happy after chasing the biggest run in T20 cricket. The Punjab captain has compared cricket with baseball. He says that cricket has now turned into baseball. With a brilliant century by Jonny Bairstow (108 not out), Punjab Kings created a world record for chasing the biggest target of 262 runs in the history of T20 cricket and defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by 8 wickets. It was raining sixes and fours on Eden Gardens. Punjab Kings batsmen achieved the target of 262 runs in 18.4 overs with 24 sixes. Bairstow played an unbeaten innings in 48 balls and he got full support from Shashank Singh (68 not out in 28 balls). Prabhsimran Singh scored 54 runs in just 20 balls.

After the record-breaking win against KKR, Punjab Kings (KKR vs PBKS) captain Sam Curran praised centurions Jonny Bairstow and Shashank Singh. He said, ‘Very pleasant.’ Very important win, cricket has turned into baseball, right? We are happy with the two points. We’ve had a tough few weeks as a team. Forget the score, we deserved this win. Earlier, thanks to the fast partnership of Sunil Narayan (71) and Phil Salt (75) for the first wicket, KKR made its second highest score by scoring 261 runs for 6 wickets. Then KKR captain Shreyas Iyer would not even have any idea what was going to happen next.

Neither Kohli nor Pandya.. Shivam Dubey and Rinku Singh also out, star players ignored in Manjrekar’s T20 World Cup team

‘Shashank is the discovery of the tournament’
Sam Curran further said, ‘I am very happy with Jonny Bairstow’s century. What a brilliant innings he played. Shashank Singh is the discovery of this tournament for us. Ashutosh Sharma is also playing well. I am proud of everyone. Both the records of chasing the target were made against KKR in a span of 10 days and at Eden Gardens itself. On April 16, KKR had failed to defend the score of 223 runs for 6 wickets in which another England player Jos Buttler led his team to victory by scoring a century in 55 balls. Till then this was the joint IPL record for chases and both were done by Rajasthan Royals. He did this first against Mumbai Indians in 2000 and then against KKR in 2024.

KKR’s 24 crore bowlers failed
These two defeats have also highlighted the plight of KKR’s bowling this season as Mitchell Starc, bought for Rs 24.75 crore, has failed to live up to expectations. Whereas for Punjab Kings, this victory came a little late for their playoff hopes. This is its third win in nine matches, taking the team to eighth place in the 10-team table. This was the third defeat in 8 matches for KKR, it has 10 points due to which it is at second place after Rajasthan Royals.
