Controversy increased over making 70 lawyers senior… Case reached Supreme Court against Delhi High Court


New Delhi : The order given by the Delhi High Court to give seniority status to lawyers has been challenged in the Supreme Court. A request has been made to list the petition for early hearing. On this, the Supreme Court has asked the petitioner to circulate the letter for this and follow the procedure. Delhi High Court has challenged the granting of senior advocate status to lawyers.

Controversial process

Recently, Delhi High Court has designated 70 lawyers as Senior Advocates. This designation is given after evaluating the candidates by a standing committee. It included Chief Justice Manmohan, Justice Vibhu Bakhru, Justice Yashwant Verma and other members. Committee member, senior advocate Sudhir Nandrajog resigned from the committee.

Case before the bench of Chief Justice

On Monday, the matter was raised before the bench headed by the Chief Justice. Chief Justice Khanna told the lawyer who filed the petition that oral mention of the matter will not be allowed but you should circulate the letter. The lawyer appealed for urgent hearing of the case and said that this matter is related to the seniority of lawyers in Delhi High Court.
