Congress has put in all its strength for the remaining two phases, the party has special expectations from these states.

New Delhi: Five phases of elections have been held in the country. Now the sixth and seventh phase of elections are left. While Congress has planned to run its campaign vigorously in both these phases, it is also putting forward the grassroots issues in a strategic manner. Delhi, Haryana, Himachal and Punjab are very important for Congress. This time Congress is expecting better performance in all these states. Of these four states, except Punjab, in the remaining three places the contest is between BJP and INDIA alliance, whereas in Haryana and Himachal, there is a direct contest between BJP and Congress. There are a total of 35 seats in these four states and the Union Territory of Chandigarh, out of which 24 seats went to the BJP, while two seats went to the Akali Dal, which was then part of the NDA. Congress got eight seats and AAP one seat. This time Congress is expecting better from here, that is why Congress is making efforts in these states.

Strategy to stop BJP in Delhi

Congress is contesting elections on seven seats of Delhi along with AAP under the banner of India Alliance. Here the leaders of Congress and AAP have started campaigning for each other, so that there can be coordination between each other’s cadre and voters on the ground. Recently, Rahul Gandhi had said in a campaign in Delhi that this time I will press the button on the broom and Kejriwal will stamp his/her paw. Kejriwal has also given a similar message to his/her cadre in the Chandni Chowk meeting. Both the parties together are making every possible effort to stop the hat-trick of Modi government on all the seven seats of Delhi. So far, Rahul Gandhi and Kharge have held one rally each in Delhi, while on Thursday Rahul is going to hold rallies in North East and North West, while Sachin Pilot is also active here. Will Congress be able to capitalize on anti-incumbency in Haryana?
BJP has been winning ten seats in Haryana for the last two times but this time Congress has a lot of expectations from here. Congress has fielded big faces like Deependra Singh Hooda and Kumari Selja. Assembly elections are to be held here after a few months, that is why Congress is putting full emphasis here. Congress is trying to capitalize on the ten years of anti-incumbency against the double engine government of BJP here. According to sources, Congress has planned to focus more on inflation and unemployment as well as farmers’ issues in these states, especially MSP guarantee and Agniveer, in the remaining two phases. In fact, the resentment on the ground regarding farmers’ issues is most prominent in the country in Punjab and Haryana. Apart from these two states, a large number of youth from Himachal Pradesh join the army, hence Congress is raising this issue prominently here. In Haryana, Congress has given the Kurukshetra seat to AAP as part of the alliance. Congress is working on a strategy to create a solid base for itself in view of the assembly elections in the state by winning maximum seats here. Seeing the possibilities in Haryana, Congress is holding vigorous rallies here. On Wednesday, Rahul Gandhi held three rallies in the state in Mahendragarh, Pachkula and Sonipat.

Concern about reputation in Himachal
Congress wants to win maximum seats in Himachal Pradesh. Mandi seat remains a prestige issue especially for Congress. Congress has made the contest very interesting here by fielding Vikramaditya Singh against Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut. Mandi has been associated with prestige for the family of former Himachal Pradesh CM Virbhadra Singh. Virbhadra Singh and his/her wife Pratibha Singh have been winning from here. At the same time, Congress wants to give a message to BJP by removing seats from here that it still has a hold on the state. It is noteworthy that during the Rajya Sabha elections, the Sukhu government of Congress survived here. In such a situation, this election is also related to CM Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu’s own political reputation.

Desire to repeat the old performance in Punjab

Congress and AAP are contesting elections separately in Punjab. Congress, which won eight seats last time, is once again hoping to repeat its old performance. Here both the parties are trying to ensure that there is competition between them on most of the seats. Here BJP and Akali Dal are also in the fray, but the influence of both the parties fighting separately is not visible on the ground as it was last time. It is believed that in many places these two parties will cut into each other’s votes. Congress is seeing this as an advantage for itself. There is almost two years of anti-incumbency against the AAP government in Punjab, Congress is trying to take advantage of this resentment. Last time Congress faced factionalism here, but this time the party has succeeded in controlling it to a great extent. Many Congress leaders from Punjab have switched to BJP, prominent among them are Preneet Kaur and Ravneet Singh Biddu, while Congress has fielded all its important faces here, including former CM Charanjit Singh Channi, State President Amarinder Singh Raja Wadding, Sukhpal Names like Singh Khaira, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, sitting MP Amar Singh, Gurjit Singh Aujla, Vijay Inder Singla and Dharamveer Gandhi are important.
