Commonwealth of Dominica will give its highest national award to PM Modi, know the reason behind giving the award

New Delhi:Prime Minister Narendra Modi will once again be honored with the highest national award. The Commonwealth of Dominica will confer its highest national award, the Dominica Order of Honour, on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The award is being given in recognition of PM Modi’s contribution to Dominica during the COVID-19 pandemic and his/her dedication to strengthening the partnership between India and Dominica.

The Commonwealth of Dominica, in its letter, said that the Commonwealth of Dominica will confer its highest national award, the Dominica Award of Honour, on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The award recognizes his/her contributions to Dominica during the COVID-19 pandemic and his/her dedication to strengthening the partnership between India and Dominica. The award will be presented by President Silvani Burton during the upcoming India-CARICOM Summit in Guyana.

India had given the vaccine

The letter further stated that in February 2021, India generously provided 70,000 doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine to Dominica, enabling Dominica to support its Caribbean neighbours. The award also acknowledges India’s support to Dominica in healthcare, education, information technology and climate resilience-building initiatives under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi.

Prime Minister Skerrit expressed Dominica’s gratitude for their solidarity, highlighting Prime Minister Modi’s significant support during the global health crisis. he/she emphasized that this award is a symbol of the strong ties between the two countries and the commitment to take this partnership forward.

While accepting the award, Prime Minister Modi underlined the importance of cooperation in tackling global challenges like climate change and geopolitical conflict. he/she reaffirmed India’s commitment to work closely with Dominica and the Caribbean in addressing these issues. Both President Sylvan Burton and Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit will participate in the India-CARICOM Summit to discuss shared priorities and explore new avenues of cooperation between India and CARICOM member states.
