Comments against women will prove costly during election campaign! CEC gave these special instructions

New Delhi: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajeev Kumar has condemned the use of inappropriate language for women political leaders during the Maharashtra election campaign. The Chief Election Commissioner has asked officials to take prompt and decisive action against any candidate making such comments. According to the report, in a meeting with election and law enforcement officials, Kumar expressed strong disapproval and concern over language that degrades the dignity and respect of women.

‘Avoid statements against women’

According to the Election Code of Conduct, political parties and candidates should avoid any work, activity or statement that is prejudicial to the honor and dignity of women. Kumar further stressed that candidates should avoid personal attacks or criticism unrelated to public roles. he/she directed officials to ensure that immediate and strict action is taken against any derogatory remarks made towards women that violate the election code of conduct.

The CEC expects that all those participating in the elections will observe respectful conduct and language in public and in their speeches. On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also criticized leaders of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance for alleged derogatory comments about women.

Reaction after Shiv Sena leader’s comment

The CEC statement comes after Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Arvind Sawant made controversial remarks about Shiv Sena candidate Shaina NC. Sawant had said that imported goods do not work here; Only genuine merchandise works. We have the real stuff. However, he/she did not take the name of Shaina NC in his/her statement.
