Citizenship policy will change in Trump government! 16 lakh Indians will be affected, know how

Donald Trump News: Donald Trump has got a landslide victory in the presidential elections held in America. he/she has achieved the record of becoming President for the second time by defeating Democratic Party candidate Kamala Harris by a huge margin. Trump’s election victory is being seen as the biggest comeback in politics. Donald Trump is now going to become the 47th President of America. his/her swearing-in ceremony will take place on January 20, 2025 and after that the government will be formed.
However, with Trump’s victory, concern for migrant families, especially Indians, has increased. Trump’s return could put children’s automatic American citizenship in danger. The top priority in the agenda of the Trump government is to end the automatic citizenship given to children. Information about this has also been given on the website of Trump’s election campaign. According to the plan, Trump can issue orders regarding citizenship on the very first day of his/her tenure.

What will the order mean?

The order of the Trump government is not only going to trouble illegal immigrants, but it will also affect the people living legally. “This order will direct all federal agencies to require at least one parent of children to be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident in order to automatically obtain citizenship in the future,” a draft of Trump’s order reads.

Speaking to TOI, immigration attorney Rajeev S. Khanna said, “Trump’s plan is to not automatically give citizenship to children born in America. This in itself is a violation of the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution. There is a decision of the Supreme Court to challenge Trump’s order. Is.” Immigration attorney Greg Siskind said, “This decision will be challenged in court because it violates the 14th Amendment. It remains to be seen whether they also exclude children of people living legally in the United States.”

What will be the effect of the order on Indians?

There are 48 lakh Indian-Americans living in America, out of which 34 percent or 16 lakh were born in the US. The passing of the executive order will be a big blow to Indians, because suddenly these people will not have citizenship of the country. If this order is implemented, then in future the children of those couples will not be able to acquire US citizenship, neither of whom is a US citizen or green card holder.

Due to citizenship by birth, the children of Indian couples waiting for green cards at least had the relief that their children would be able to live a stable life in America. Indians have already been discriminated against in the matter of green cards. Many Indians working in America on H-1B visa have been waiting for green cards for decades. The annual limit for Green Card given on the basis of employment is Rs 1,40,000.
