Choreographer Jani Master’s National Award taken back, banned from attending ceremonies


Choreographer Jani Master was accused of sexual harassment by a former female employee, after which he/she was arrested by Cyberabad police on September 19. Later he/she was brought to Hyderabad. he/she was granted interim bail on October 3 to attend the National Film Awards, but it has now been suspended. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has now suspended Jani Master’s National Awards due to sexual harassment allegations. The letter signed by Deputy Director Indrani Bose said, ‘The letter has been sent to Mr. Sheikh Jani Basha (Jani Master) for attending the National Film Awards ceremony of the year 2022 even before the allegations of offense under the POCSO Act surfaced. Was.’

Jani Master’s invitation withdrawn

It further said, ‘Given the seriousness of the allegation and since the matter is sub-judice, the competent authority has decided to suspend the National Film Award for Best Choreography 2022 for the film ‘Thiruchitrambalam’ to Mr. Sheikh Jani Basha till further orders. Therefore, the invitation given to Shri Sheikh Jani Basha for the 70th National Film Awards ceremony to be held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on 8 October 2024 is withdrawn.

Jani Master got interim bail

Reportedly, Jani Master was granted interim bail from October 6 to October 10 to attend the National Film Awards Ceremony, where he/she was honored for his/her work on the song ‘Megham Karukkatha’ from Dhanush and Nithya Menen’s film ‘Thiruchithrambalam’. Prize will be given.

The victim made serious allegations
The now 21-year-old victim has alleged that Jani Master asked for sex in order to get work done. The victim said that the choreographer first raped her in 2019 and sexually assaulted her on several occasions.

Jani Master denied the allegations

Denying the allegations, Jani had said, ‘She (the victim) herself met him/her through a show. She lied about being sexually assaulted when she was a minor. I recognized his/her talent and gave him/her a chance as an assistant choreographer. The victim used to torture me mentally to marry me. he/she threatened me many times’

allegations against Jani

Jani was charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act under sections 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the IPC. Jani has also choreographed the song ‘Aaj Ki Raat’ from ‘Stree 2’ and the song ‘Do You Know’ from the film ‘Khel Khel Mein’.
