Chordoma: Men are more at risk of chordoma than women, know what are the main symptoms.


Chordoma is a type of cancer that develops in the spinal cord and skull bones. This rare disease occurs in very few people but it can occur at any age. Even children can fall prey to it. In the problem of chordoma, there is pressure on the nerves of the spine and brain. This may cause problems like pain, numbness or weakness. Its symptoms depend on where the cancer is and how big it is.

According to the doctor, this problem is related to a disturbance in genes. In some families, an extra copy of the TVXT gene is formed, which is called a duplicate gene. People in this family have a higher risk of developing chordoma. Apart from this, increase in the activity of TVXT gene has been found even in families which had no history of this disease.

There are three different types of chordoma
Classic Chordoma: This is the most common type of chordoma. It is made up of a unique type of cell that looks like bubbles.
Differentiated Chordoma: This is a rare type of koderma that appears as a mixture of abnormal cells. It is more aggressive and faster-growing and more likely to metastasize.
Poorly differentiated chordoma: This type of chordoma is very rare and most commonly affects children and young adults.

Through imaging tests, doctors can find out in which part of the body the cancer is and how big it is.

Apart from this, biopsy is also done to find out where the cancer is.
