- Every year 14 November is celebrated as Children’s Day in India.
- The birth anniversary or birthday of India’s first Prime Minister Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru falls on 14 November, which is known as Children’s Day in the country.
- Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was born on 14 November 1889 in Allahabad (now Prayagraj).
- Pandit Nehru had a very special affection towards children and hence children also fondly called him/her Chacha Nehru. Considering this relationship between children and PM Nehru, 14 November is celebrated as Children’s Day.
- Earlier, November 20 was celebrated as Children’s Day in India, which has been declared as World Children’s Day by the United Nations.
- After the death of Pandit Nehru, in the year 1964, a proposal was brought in the Parliament to celebrate 14th November as Children’s Day.
- PM Pandit Nehru often talked about the future and development of children. he/she said, ‘Today’s children will create tomorrow’s India. The future of the country is decided by the way we raise them.
- November 14 as Children’s Day symbolizes that children are the future of the country and the world, hence it is the responsibility of the entire society to groom them and prepare them for the future.
- Children’s Day i.e. 14th November also symbolizes that we all need to keep that childhood or that child alive within us as we grow older, due to which life becomes cheerful and enthusiastic.
- Various types of programs are organized in schools for children on Children’s Day, which include events like speech competition, poster making, dance, debate, essay competitions along with sports.
