Why was it named Chandipura?

In the year 1965, between April and June, an outbreak of a new virus was seen in Chandipur of Nagpur city. This virus caused fever in people. Many children aged 14 to 15 years died due to this virus. Since the virus first started in Chandipura village of Nagpur, it came to be known as Chandipura virus.

What are the symptoms?

Primary symptoms in children include high fever, vomiting, diarrhea, headache and cramps. Chandipura virus often causes sudden high fever followed by seizures, diarrhea, swelling in the brain, vomiting, which can lead to death. It has been reported that children infected with this virus die within 48-72 hours of the appearance of symptoms. In such a situation, this virus is fatal for infants and adults. The Gujarat government has appealed to people to be cautious.
