New Delhi. Following the continuous complaints against Chinese loan and betting apps, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has started the process of banning and blocking 138 betting apps and 94 lending apps on the instructions of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. According to sources, all these apps have Chinese connections and are going to harm India’s sovereignty and integrity.

According to the information, a few days ago, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology was instructed by the Union Home Ministry to ban such Chinese apps, which are working through any other third party link. Sources said that all these Chinese apps were violating Section 69 of the IT Act. These contain material which is a threat to the sovereignty and integrity of India.

According to sources, these apps used to trap financially strapped people in the debt trap and then the loan interest was increased up to 3,000 per cent. At the same time, many people who were unable to repay the loan were harassed so much by those working for these Chinese apps that they were forced to commit suicide. The issue came into limelight after several suicides and harassment by borrowers of these apps, especially in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

On the other hand, these Chinese apps also have the potential to misuse server-side security and turn them into spying tools. Actually these apps have access to important data of Indians. Access to such data can be used for espionage on a large scale, due to which all such apps are being considered as a threat to the country.

The Union Home Ministry had started investigating some Chinese loan giving apps six months ago. Investigation found that 94 such apps are present on the e-store and are working through some other third party link. At the same time, security agencies had also asked the Ministry of Home Affairs to ban such betting and loan lending apps.

It is worth mentioning that earlier in 2022, the Center had banned 54 Chinese apps posing a threat to the security of the country.
