New Delhi : Census may start in the country from next year. This news has come to light in media reports quoting sources. According to the report, this census will start from 2025 and continue till 2026. Consideration is also being given to conducting census on the basis of sect. After the census, the way for delimitation of Lok Sabha seats will be cleared.

Report will be released in 2026

The last census in India was recorded in 2011. Its next phase was to start in 2021, but it was delayed due to the second wave of Covid-19. Since then, many questions are being asked regarding the census as to when the next census data will be published. Now, according to highly placed sources in the central government, the next census data will be available in 2026. According to media reports, the process of recording census data will begin in 2025 and the report will be published in 2026.

Lok Sabha seats will be delimited

According to media reports, now the census cycle will also change. The census which used to be conducted every 10 years will now take place in 2035. Till now the census was conducted every 10 years at the beginning of the decade. Sources said that the delimitation of Lok Sabha seats will start after the completion of the census. The delimitation process is expected to be completed by 2028. Meanwhile, the government has not yet taken a decision on the caste census, which is being demanded by many opposition parties. Sources said that religion and class are kept in mind in the census, but this time people may also be asked which sect they follow.

The first census was conducted in 1872

The census of India is conducted every decade, the first census was conducted in 1872. The first census after independence was recorded in 1951 and the last census in 2011.
