Captain’s mistake weighed heavy on Babar-Rizwan, ICC imposed class, gave a strong blow

New Delhi. The International Cricket Council (ICC) fined Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and other Pakistan players 25 percent of their match fees for slow over-rate in the second Test under the captaincy of Shan Masooz against South Africa at Newlands and banned them from the team’s five World Test matches. Championship (WTC) points also deducted. South Africa, which played the WTC final against Australia at Lord’s in June, won the second Test match by 10 wickets.

The ICC said in a statement that West Indies match referee Richie Richardson imposed the penalty after ‘Pakistan was found guilty of bowling five overs less than the stipulated time, despite taking into account the time allowance.’ According to the ICC Code of Conduct, players are fined five percent of their match fees for bowling less than the stipulated overs in the stipulated time.

The ICC also said that Pakistan captain Shan Masood has accepted the punishment, hence there is no need for a formal hearing. Pakistan is at eighth place in the points table. West Indies is in ninth and last place.

Talking about the match, they registered a spectacular victory over Pakistan in the second and final test of the test series and made a clean sweep of 2-0. World Test Championship finalists South Africa won by 10 wickets at Newlands, Cape Town.
