Study in Canada: The path is going to be very difficult for students going to study in Canada. The reason for this is that these days a lot of difficulties are being seen in Canada regarding obtaining a study visa. A recent study by Canada’s study abroad platform ‘ApplyBoard’ states that the approval rate of study visas may fall to 50%. This means that one out of every two students applying to study in a Canadian university is not going to get a study visa.

The Canadian government wants to reduce the number of foreign students. But the way the approval rate of student visas is declining now, it has not been seen since 2018 and 2019. According to a study by ApplyBoard, “the rate of approval of study permits for Indian students has halved in the first six months of this year.” This shows how difficult it is going to be for Indian students to get approval for a study visa in the remaining months.

There will be a decline in applications for Canadian study permit

According to the study, 2,31,000 new study permits are to be issued by the end of 2024, whereas 4,36,000 permits were issued in 2023. In this way, a clear decline in the rate of issuance of study permits can be seen. Ever since the attempt to limit the number of foreign students has been made, there has been a decline in the applications for study permits. The study estimates that there will be a 39% reduction in applications for study permits this year compared to last year.

What is the number of Indian students in Canada?

The number of students from India going to Canada to study is very high. Every year lakhs of students take admission in the universities here. In 2022, the number of international students studying in Canada was 5,50,000, out of which almost half i.e. 2,26,000 students were from India. Currently, the number of Indian students studying in Canada on student visa is 3,20,000. These students are also making a big contribution to the Canadian economy as gig workers.

Why has it become difficult to get a Canadian student visa?

Actually, the number of international students in Canada was increasing for the last few years. After this, the government set a limit on issuing study permits. Under this, now only 6,06,000 study permits will be issued in two years. Immigration Minister Mark Miller has announced a limit on the number of international students for the next two years, due to which there may be a 35% decrease in the number of students in 2024 as compared to 2023. Due to this, the target of 6 lakh students is also not expected to be met.
