Canada TFW Program: In Canada, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government is changing visa rules or rules for giving jobs to foreign workers every month. The situation in Canada, which was once considered the best place to live and settle, is now constantly changing. In this regard, the Trudeau government has made changes in the ‘Temporary Foreign Worker Program’ in Canada, so that misuse of this scheme can be stopped. Also, people can be saved from fraud through this scheme.
In fact, Canadian companies or employers recruit foreign workers through the ‘Temporary Foreign Worker’ (TFW) program in Canada. They have the option to do so only when they do not find good or qualified people for work in Canada. However, the Canadian government says that the ‘Temporary Foreign Worker’ (TFW) program has been misused to avoid hiring talented workers in the country and instead rely on foreign workers.

New TFW program rules come into effect from today

The government has said that now before hiring foreign workers using the ‘Temporary Foreign Worker’ program, companies will have to do a ‘Labor Market Impact Assessment’ (LMIA), in which they will have to prove that there is no qualified citizen in the country to do the job for which they are hiring the foreign worker. The government wants Canadian companies and employers to reduce their dependence on this program. The new rules regarding the TFW program are coming into effect from today, September 26.

Prohibited from employing more than 10% foreign workers

The Government of Canada is going to refuse to process LMIAs in metropolitan areas with an unemployment rate of 6% or more. LMIAs will be processed for seasonal and non-seasonal jobs in food security sectors (agriculture, food processing and fish processing), as well as construction and healthcare.

Employers will not be allowed to hire more than 10% of their total workforce as foreign workers through the TFW program. The employment period for those hired under the TFW program has been reduced to just one year, from two years previously.

The effect of this change in Canada is going to be seen on Indians as well. The reason for this is that people from many parts of the country including Punjab-Haryana go to Canada to work. Most of these people do low-skilled jobs, like working on farms. Many companies used to employ these people under the TFW program. But now it is going to be difficult to employ them due to the change in rules.
