‘Campaign for Uighurs’ demands global accountability for China’s human rights abuses

On the fifth annual International Day of the Victims of Acts of Violence Based on Religion or Belief, Rushan Abbas, Founder and Executive Director of the Campaign for Uyghurs, participated in a webinar titled “Prisoners of Conscience: Violence and Violence in Detention and Custody.”

Rushan gave a horrific account of the Uyghur genocide against the Muslim Uyghur people that CCP-controlled China is carrying out in East Turkistan. In addition, she explained how this has affected her personally, highlighting the case of her sister Gulshan Abbas’s unjust imprisonment by the criminal communist regime. She called on organizations and countries of the world to come together to hold China accountable.

The United Nations General Assembly has established August 22 as the International Day of Remembrance of Victims of Violence Based on Religion or Belief. The day underlines the need to provide adequate help and support to victims of such violence and their families, in accordance with the relevant legal framework.

Campaign for Uyghurs frequently holds events to raise awareness and garner support for Uyghur issues. It is an organization dedicated to advocating for the rights and freedoms of the Uyghur people who are facing massive human rights abuses in Xinjiang, China. Their efforts are focused on raising awareness of the situation in Xinjiang, which includes issues such as mass detentions, forced labor, and cultural suppression. The organization works to build international pressure on governments and institutions to take action against these abuses. They also support Uyghur communities, promote ethical consumerism, and engage in advocacy to influence policy changes. Campaign for Uyghurs uses a variety of strategies, including media outreach, legislative lobbying, and humanitarian aid, to address and combat the current crisis facing the Uyghur population.

Several international organisations are actively raising awareness of the human rights abuses faced by Uighurs in Xinjiang. Human Rights Watch (HRW) extensively documents and reports on issues such as the mass detention and surveillance of Uighurs, providing detailed analysis and calls for action. Amnesty International has also highlighted the severe repression faced by Uighurs, advocating for international intervention and accountability through its reports and updates.
