‘Call Me Bay’ Review: Ananya Pandey will be seen in a new avatar, will not disappoint with her character

Heroines like Tabu, Kajol and Kareena Kapoor have shown their prowess in long format series. Now a new breed of heroine like Ananya Pandey has also appeared on OTT with her web series Call Me Bae. This story of director Colin D’Cunha seems to be inspired by Emily in Paris, but the director has molded it in a desi style by setting it on the backdrop of Delhi-Mumbai.

Review of ‘Call Me Bay’

This story of director Colin D’Cunha moves forward in the style of the proverb ‘from the sky to the ground’. This kind of story is seen a lot in English and Spanish series. To show the luxurious world of Bay, he/she creates a world which we have not seen, but it definitely feels good to peep into that world. Here the director has decorated the grandeur of luxury with fashionable branded clothes, shiny sets, luxury cars and helicopters. In the series, more importance has been given to the style than the story and as the episodes increase, the story also becomes a bit predictable. The struggles of ‘Bay’ in Mumbai do not seem like a mountain but seem of a small scale. Here the series becomes a bit slow. However, this series has been woven keeping the youth in mind, in which today’s relationships, heartbreak and struggle of the youth have been shown. The ending point of every episode seems interesting. Glorifying social media journalism in the series is disturbing.

Ananya Pandey is very cheerful in the role of Bea. When a girl born with a silver spoon is thrown on the ground, the situation that happens to her, Ananya makes it fun with her innocence and playfulness. She has got a character which matches her image as well. The characters of Varun Sood and Vihaan should have been developed more. They are seen less on screen, but they have done a good job. Veer Das seems a bit loud. Mini Mathur brings energy to her role as Bea’s mother Gayatri. Muskaan Jafri and Niharika Lyra Dutt, Saira Ali and Tamarah Pawar have given strong performances. Lisa Mishra has performed well as the show’s producer Harleen.

Why watch- Those who are fond of youthful series can watch it.
