Budget 2025: New weapons, equipment, and … know what is special in India’s defense budget?

New Delhi: There has been a slight increase in the defense budget. Pension cost is more in that increase. There is an increase of 4.65 % in the budget for capital expenses. Capital cost means the amount that will be spent in the purchase of military equipment, modernization and things related to it. This time, a total allocation of Rs 6.81 lakh crore is proposed for defense in the budget. This is about 9 % more than the previous estimated budget and 6 % more than the revised budget of the previous time. This time an allocation of Rs 180000 crore is proposed for the capital expenses, which is 4.65 % more than the previous time. 311731 crore is proposed for the revenue expenses, which is 9.29 % more than the previous time. Revenue expenditure i.e. the budget from which will be spent on salary and everyday needs. 28682 crore is proposed for civil expenses, which is 10.47 % higher than last time. The maximum allocation for pension expenses has increased. This time 160795 crore has been kept for pension, which is about 14 % more than last time. The defense budget is 1.91 % of the total projected GDP. 13000 crore rupees were also returned from the capital budget given last time, because it could not be used.

The Ministry of Defense said in a statement that a large part of the domestic stake has been set to procure from domestic private industries to encourage private industries in the defense sector for manufacturing and technological development. The Rs 111544 crore i.e. 75 % of the modernization budget has been reserved for procurement through domestic sources, while a provision of Rs 27886 crore has been made for purchase from domestic private industries.

DRDO budget increase

Budget allocation for DRDO has been increased by about 12 % to Rs 26816 crore as compared to the previous time. The Ministry of Defense said that this increased budget will provide financial strength to DRDO in the development of new technologies, in which special attention will be paid to Fundamental Research and ‘Development-Cum-PRODUCTION PARTNER) Private companies will be supported through the scheme.
