Bud Chiari Syndrome is a dangerous disease related to liver, know what are the symptoms and how to prevent it.


Budd Chiari Syndrome (BDS) is a rare liver disease. In this, there is blockage in the veins carrying blood from the liver. Bud Chiari syndrome only affects adults. In this disorder, a clot or mass of blood cells blocks or narrows the nerves originating from the liver, called hepatic nerves, as a result of which blood accumulates in the liver and it expands. The spleen located in the upper left part of the stomach also gets enlarged due to this blockage.

Since there is no specific cause of liver blockage, there is no specific solution to prevent this problem. However, to avoid this liver related disease, we can keep our liver healthy.

  • Avoid alcohol consumption
  • take only prescribed medicines
  • Get your medical checkups done regularly

Treatment of Bud Chiari Syndrome

If this disease is detected early, its treatment is effective. With its treatment, the clots in the veins of the liver dissolve or the contraction improves. IVC is done to reduce inflammation and scarring in the liver. Apart from this, it is also very important to manage complications like portal high blood pressure. You may also be given medicines to dissolve blood clots and thin the blood. Apart from this, some non-surgical procedures are also included in its treatment. If the patient is not benefiting from any other treatment, then the doctor may recommend liver transplant.
