What is Madhubani, how is it related to Ram-Sita?

Madhubani painting is also known as Mithila painting. The style of traditional art was originated in the Mithila region of Bihar. It is said that at the time of the marriage of Mother Sita and Shri Ram, King Janak had given the task of engraving women artists as a picture. The style of this painting was Madhubani.

In 1934, the discovery of this art, which has been identified by a particular region for hundreds of years, in 1934 William G. Archer did when he/she came to inspect the area after a major earthquake. Meanwhile, he/she got to see this art on the walls inside the houses. It is said that he/she was very impressed after seeing this painting.

Arts reached paper and clothes from walls and soil

This painting was earlier made by women only during auspicious occasions on walls or soil. This is the reason why it was impossible to preserve them. It is said that the Indian Handicraft Board later urged women artists to engrave this art on Kagal, clothes and canvas. After this change, with time, male artists also started appearing more in the field of painting Madhubani.

How is Madhubani painting made?

Madhubani painting is traditionally made from twigs, matchsticks and fingers. Over time, brushes began to be used for this. The colors used in painting are completely natural. For this, cow dung, soot, turmeric, indigo, flowers and leaves juice, sandalwood, rice flour etc. are used.

Stories and nature forms appear in painting

Madhubani paintings mainly show tantric, cut, tattoo, bharani and Kohbar styles. In these, folk tales, legends, epics and mythology etc. are engraved as pictures.
