There is no such thing as digital arrest
DCP (Crime and Cyber) Dutta Nalavade said that there is no such thing as digital arrest. People fall prey to fraud due to lack of information, trust in online talks and social engineering. Simply put, digital arrest is a scam in which thugs become police or other government officials scare people and make money from them. They use psychological tactics, false stories and technology to trap the victims. People are advised to beware of such scams and not to give their information to an unknown person.
Do not give personal information to an unknown person
To avoid digital arrest scam, people should take care of some things. First of all, they should never give their personal information to an unknown person. Second, they should never give money to someone who is threatening them to arrest or take legal action against them. Third, they should always confirm whether they are really contacting them by contacting police or other government officials. If you feel that you have fallen victim to digital arrest scam, then you should report to the police immediately. You can also report cyber crime on the cybercrime portal.
