Bowlers who got each other out on ‘Golden Duck’, Kapil had hunted down a Pakistani batsman


New Delhi. In cricket, getting out on 0 is considered a shameful moment. Any batsman feels more embarrassed when he/she loses his/her wicket on his/her very first ball. This is called ‘Golden Duck’. In the 147-year history of Test cricket, there have been a few such occasions when a bowler has avenged getting out on a ‘Golden Duck’ by getting the same bowler of the opposing team out on the very first ball in the same manner.

So far in Test cricket, on 6 occasions, on the lines of ‘tit for tat’, a bowler who got the opponent out on the first ball has also got his/her wicket off on the very first ball. India’s all-rounder Kapil Dev did this in the 1983 Bangalore Test against Pakistan.

Let’s take a look at those bowlers who got out on the first ball of a Test and then got the same bowler out on a ‘Golden Duck’.

South Africa’s Hesseltine did this feat for the first time
In Test cricket, the feat of getting the same opposition bowler out on the first ball after being out on a ‘golden duck’ was first achieved by South African fast bowler Christopher Heseltine. In the 1896 Johannesburg Test between South Africa and England, England’s fast bowler George Rowe got Heseltine LBW on the very first ball in the first innings. Right-arm fast bowler Hazeltine took revenge by bowling Rowe on a ‘golden duck’ in England’s second innings.

India’s Kapil Dev repeated Hazeltine’s feat in the 1983 Bangalore Test (then Bangalore) against Pakistan and became the second bowler in the world to do so. In the first innings of the Bangalore Test, Pakistan’s left-arm fast bowler Azeem Hafeez got Kapil caught by Mohsin Khan on his/her very first ball. Kapil Dev also settled the score by bowling Hafeez on his/her first ball in Pakistan’s first innings.

After 1983, such an occasion came in the Bridgetown Test of 1991 when two bowlers dismissed each other on a ‘Golden Duck’. In the second innings of the fourth Test of the series between West Indies and Australia, Australian fast bowler Bruce Reid dismissed each other on a Golden Duck. courtney walsh (Courtney Walsh) was out on a golden duck. Walsh’s catch was taken by Jeff Marsh. Walsh took revenge by dismissing Reid on his/her very first ball in Australia’s second innings. he/she bowled Reid (Bruce Reid). Let us tell you, in the first innings of this test too, Walsh had bowled Reid on 0 but then he/she was out on the fourth ball.

MacGill got out on the very first ball and took revenge from Murali
The first three battles were between fast bowlers. In 2004, for the first time, two spinners dismissed each other on a golden duck in international cricket. In the first innings of the Galle Test between Australia and Sri Lanka, the host team’s spinner Muralitharan (Muthiah Muralidaran) dismissed Stuart MacGill on the very first ball. On the last day of the match, in Sri Lanka’s second innings, MacGill also treated Murali in the same way. This Australian leg-break bowler dismissed Murali on a golden duck. Murali was stumped by wicketkeeper Gilchrist while trying to hit a shot on the very first ball of MacGill (Stuart MacGill). In this Test, Muralitharan made a pair (out on 0 in both innings) but he/she was able to play one ball before becoming Warne’s victim in the first innings.

Rabada, who took 7 wickets in the first innings and 6 wickets in the second innings, was the ‘Player of the Match’.

The last time in Test cricket, this occasion came in the Lord’s Test between England and West Indies in July this year when Jason Holder and Gus Atkinson dismissed each other on a golden duck. In the first innings of West Indies, England’s fast bowler Gus Atkinson got Holder caught by Harry Brook on the very first ball. Holder, who was out on a ‘golden duck’, did not take long to settle the score and in the very next innings got Atkinson caught by wicketkeeper Joshua de Silva. Atkinson also returned to the pavilion after getting out on a ‘golden duck’. In this Test, the bowling of Player of the Match Atkinson (7/45 & 5/61) played an important role in giving England an innings victory.
