Both of them started their political career from Delhi…breathed their last here, know special things related to Sitaram Yechury-Jaitley

New Delhi : CPM general secretary and senior leader Sitaram Yechury breathed his/her last in AIIMS, Delhi. With this, the life of a very sociable, soft-spoken and popular politician came to an end. Yechury was ill for some time. Marxist theorist Yechury may have been known as a leader who believed in communist ideology, but there was another important side of him/her. Yechury also accepted reality for the needs of democratic and practical politics. This was the reason why he/she emerged as an important character in coalition politics. Yechury started politics with Arun Jaitley, a big leader of BJP. The special thing is that both the leaders breathed their last in AIIMS Delhi. In such a situation, there are many things that are similar in both the politicians.

Both studied from DU

Both Sitaram Yechury and Arun Jaitley were born in 1952. Sitaram Yechury was born on 12 August 1952 in Madras (now Chennai), Tamil Nadu in a Telugu-speaking Brahmin family. BJP’s argument on nationalism sounds like Bush’s infamous statement – either you are with us or with the terrorists. Those who support BJP are nationalists, those who stand against them are anti-nationals. However, we are not going to learn nationalism from BJP.

walked on two different paths of politics

Although both the leaders started politics together, their ideologies were completely different. While Jaitley moved forward in politics with BJP, Yechury continued his/her political journey with the leftist ideology till the end. In the journey of five decades, both the politicians showed how one can present one’s strong ideological base with expertise in the art of politics. Yechury had become the face of CPM in Delhi. he/she was a Rajya Sabha MP from 2005 to 2017. Jaitley, on the other hand, handled the responsibility of the Ministry of Defense and the Finance Ministry from the Vajpayee government to the Modi government. On the other hand, when the leftist parties supported the first UPA government in May 2004, Yechury’s role was very important at that time. At that time he/she played the role of an important negotiator. he/she also put pressure on the Congress-led government for policy-making.

Beyond party lines, leaders of the opposition party were also close

A warm and outspoken person, he/she had a great sense of humour. Yechury’s politics benefited from his/her ability to make friends across party lines. he/she was one of those rare CPI(M) leaders with whom even BJP leaders could talk. Many say that Yechury was not a mass leader, yet he/she was known to make friends and influence people across political corridors. Jaitley also had the same quality. Jaitley also had very good relations with politicians in different opposition parties. Politically, there is hardly any party in which Jaitley did not have friends. This was the reason why Jaitley was also known as the troubleshooter of his/her party.
