Bollywood’s highest earning star, no hit film for 7 years but beats Shahrukh-Salman

It’s a Khan who rules this list but not one most people would guess today. Aamir Khan is the highest earning actor of Bollywood, who has earned a whopping Rs 275 crore from a single film ‘Dangal’. This happened in 2017, when ‘Dangal’ became a blockbuster after the film earned huge collections from China. With earnings of Rs 1300 crore, it remains the highest grossing film till date.

According to a 2017 Bollywood Hungama report, Aamir Khan had charged Rs 35 crore for ‘Dangal’. Apart from this, he/she had also signed an agreement with the makers of the sports biopic. ‘Dangal’ was released in December 2016 and was a massive success, earning over ₹500 crore in India and over ₹100 crore overseas in its initial run.

According to reports, with the sale of satellite and digital rights, the film made a profit of Rs 420 crore. Aamir took 140 crores from it, taking his/her earning from the film to 175 crores.

‘Dangal’ did the same at the box office with ‘Dangal’

But there was more to come. ‘Dangal’ was released in China the next year, becoming one of the biggest hits of all time. The film grossed $200 million in the country. Forbes reported that due to this, Aamir got 15 million dollars i.e. 100 crores more in profit. With this his/her total earning from the film became Rs 275 crore. This was the highest earning of any Indian actor till date and has reportedly been surpassed by Allu Arjun who is set to earn Rs 300 crore from Pushpa 2.

Although Aamir is on top in Bollywood, both Shahrukh and Salman have taken the highest amount of 120-200 crores for the film. Before ‘Dangal’, Aamir was the king of Bollywood box office for many years. his/her film ‘Ghajini’ entered the Rs 100-crore club in 2008. he/she earned Rs 400-crore and Rs 600-crore with hit films like ‘3 Idiots’, ‘PK’ and ‘Dhoom 3’.

he/she then came back to the screen with ‘Secret Superstar’, where he/she played a small role. Since then, Aamir has done two lead roles and both proved to be huge flops at the box office. ‘Thugs of Hindostan’ is one of the worst flops in the history of Bollywood and ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ also flopped when it released in 2022. Despite this, Aamir Khan remains the highest paid actor in Bollywood.
