This new rule will come into effect from 2025. The first exam will be held in February or early March. The second exam will be held in May, which will be for those students who fail in some or all subjects in the first exam. The Education Minister said that this change is being made under the National Education Policy (NEP). This will save students from wasting time.
The MBOSE secretary said that the cabinet has taken another important decision. It has been decided to abolish the system of optional question papers or ‘best of five question papers’ from the 2026-2027 academic year. This means that from 2026-2027 it will be mandatory for all students to pass all six subjects in the board examination.
Meghalaya’s education minister said the state cabinet had approved the proposal earlier this month. The proposal relates to amendments in the MBOSE Regulations for the Secondary School Leaving Certificate Examination 2011.
Sangma said, ‘Starting in 2025, MBOSE will conduct two SSLC board exams every year. The first exam will be held in February or early March, and the second exam will allow re-examination for students who fail in all or some subjects within one to two months, which will be held in May.’
The cabinet also approved the Meghalaya Public Schools Service Rules, the Meghalaya Subordinate Water Resources Engineering Service Rules, 2024, and the Farmers Empowerment Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2024.
