There are many diseases about which perhaps not everyone is aware and one of these diseases is Black Lung Disease. This is a lung disease which usually occurs in people who work in coal mines. Due to excessive exposure to coal dust, a person’s lungs become black. Difficulty in breathing occurs due to dust particles entering the lungs. This disease is also called workers’ pneumoconiosis.

Small particles of dust found in coal mines contain carbon. Apart from this, silica is found in the stones which are drilled. When they reach your lungs through breathing, your immune system recognizes them and tries to get rid of them. This immune reaction causes inflammation and scarring which ultimately leads to black lung disease.
